1. Water Purification
Introduction
*bKuraray Chemical Co. is an activated carbon manufacturer in Japan, and we are supplying our products to many water purification manufacturers both in domestic and overseas.
* Activated carbon can make drinking water tasty and safe, due to its high removable performance for such as free chlorine, trihalo-methanes (THMs), musty odors, etc...
* Row materials of activated carbon are coconuts, coals, resins etc… For water purification, coconuts based carbon is regarded to be the best because of the low ash content, suitable pore size and sharp pore distribution.
Main Role of Activated Carbon
Removal of free chlorine: Chlorine are commonly used for sterilization in public water system and generate free chlorine (ClO-) .
Activated carbon remove them by catalytic reaction.

Removal of VOC: Chroloform, Bromodichloromethane, Bromochromethane, Bromoform, Tetrachloroethlyne, Trichroloethylene, 1,1,1-Trichloroethane, Trihalomathane (THM) etc.
THMs are formed by reaction between Cl2 and organic compounds in mains water and considered harmful for human. Pore size of carbon is optimized specifically to enhance adsorption capacity of THMs.
Removal of musty smell: In summer, molds tend to grow in reservoirs. Activated carbon remove the musty smell by adsorbing origin compounds.
